We are pleased to inform you that an international workshop on the conservation of the wall paintings at the Gelati Monastery Complex will be held from October 3-6, 2024. This workshop will contribute to the development of research and monitoring components for the Gelati wall painting programme.
The topic of the workshop is "Multispectral Imaging and 3D Photogrammetric Monitoring of the Condition in the Conservation of Wall Paintings."
The main funding organization for the project is the International Education Center of Georgia.
The international mentors for the workshop are Wendy Rose (Getty Institute consultant, USA), Joshua Hill (National Gallery, London, UK), and Andres Uueni (Estonian Academy of Art, Estonia).
The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Gelati Rehabilitation Committee and the Estonian Academy of Arts.
The workshop will take place at the Gelati Monastery Complex in Imereti.
The purpose of the event is to advance the field of wall painting conservation and to introduce internationally standardized modern 3D monitoring methods in the conservation of Georgian wall paintings. Additionally, the workshop aims to enhance the practice of non-invasive research methods, such as multispectral imaging, and to contribute to the ongoing research on the Gelati wall paintings.
The workshop will be attended by the Gelati wall painting conservation group. Georgian citizens who meet the requirements (cultural heritage conservation professionals with basic knowledge of photography, computer skills, and English proficiency) are invited to participate.
Admission of candidates will be limited.
The deadline for submitting the necessary documents is September 10, 2024.
