His visit in 2022 to assess the condition of the Gelati Monastery was particularly significant, showcasing his profound expertise and unwavering commitment to preserving this monument of global importance.

Most notably, we commend Mr. Austin's recent participation in the International Advisory Council meeting in Kutaisi (July 2024) despite the considerable challenges posed by his health. His professional insights and counsel during this gathering were invaluable.

We have lost a remarkable conservator whose dedication to his work and professionalism serve as a benchmark for modern restoration practices. In these challenging times, he stands as a paragon of virtue, embodying an enduring commitment to humanity's highest values.
